Description

This is a unique account of Libyan life under Italian colonisation. The full title of the book is Tripoli: Days and Knights – A Description of the East-West Crossing by Two American Girls.

The material was gathered during three trips to Italian North Africa. As the first trip was followed by a second and third, stories, experiences and episodes accumulated, the writers gained a deeper understanding of the country around them. At the time, few literary works concentrated on Libya, which influenced the writers to collect and publish their letters along with photos, in the hope of introducing Westerners to the culture which they grew so fond of.
