Description

Born in France and raised in Lyon, Beatrice Mazard has lived in the Sahara since she was twenty years old. She first visited the desert in 1976, in Algeria, and fell in love with the landscapes and mysterious peoples of the desert immediately. She made many more lone journeys amongst the nomadic Tuareg, who has now become a second family to her. she learned their language, Tamachek, and experienced many close moments with these colourful and elusive peoples. For eight years she organised tours through the desert, and in 1989 she founded the ‘Hommes Bleus’ travel agency, which specialised in Saharan journeys and created many new itineraries for the region. In this book, she explores in detail the history and present-day situation of Libya, and its incredible Graeco-Roman ruins, its indigenous flora and fauna, and of course, the wonderful story of the Tuareg.
