Description
In 1875, Ameer Ali wrote a short work entitled A Critical Examination of the Life and Teachings of Mohammed. Many Western writers were heavily influenced by the piece despite it only discussing the purely theological aspects of Islam.
The Spirit of Islam redresses this imbalance, attempting to “embody the philosophical and ethical spirit of Islam”, more so to facilitate the research of Western researchers. With that in mind, this book can be regarded as representing a significant milestone in modern Islamic studies. Despite almost a century passing since it was first published, it remains an important work for both teachers and students of Islam today
