Description
Kuwaiti children’s author Lateefa Buti’s well-crafted and beautifully illustrated Hatless encourages children to think independently and challenge traditions with innovation and creativity. The main character is a young girl who lives in the City of Hats. Here, all of the people are born with hats that cover their heads and faces. The world inside of their hats is dark, silent, and odourless. She feels trapped in her hat and wants to take it off, but is worried about what the other people in the city will think. She can’t resist the temptation anymore, and decides to take it off and enjoy the world around her. Although people judge her for making herself ‘hatless’, she sympathises with those who are afraid to experience the world outside of their hats. This pushes her to come up with a plan to help those around her take off their hats too…
